It's Not So Black and White
Grace Biltz creates art that moves the viewer to appreciate the natural world and their relationship to it by highlighting and contrasting micro and macro worlds found in nature. Her work employs a range of drawing and printmaking techniques to evoke various perspectives, moods, and emotions, while also delving into the conceptual significance of time, place, and memory.
In her exhibition, It’s Not So Black and White, she explores a microscopic lens of minute details found in nature that are all around us, yet are often overlooked in our modern, fast-paced world. By rendering natural flora on a massive scale, she invites the viewer to ponder and seek a deeper meaning beyond the surface. The portrayal of intense details found in organic forms conveys an authentic and intimate experience with the beauty and intricacies of the everyday. This emphasizes how everything is similar and interconnected, yet at the same time different and unique. The artist’s creative work underscores the intricate web of relationships between ourselves and the natural world.
Biltz’s art serves as a visual meditation, urging viewers to take a moment to be still, breathe, and be present. Her monumental works capture the immense presence of the natural world to fully engage viewers in the moment, as well as provide a space for mindfulness, contemplation, and introspection. This offers the opportunity to rediscover and engage with our intrinsic connection to the natural world, foster a deeper respect and wonder for its beauty and resilience, and expand on understanding our lives and the world around us.
